We, the Tea Partiers

We protest against a heavy-fisted form of government that seeks to further regulate private enterprise and hinder future profits (i.e., banking and energy industries…).

via We, the Tea Partiers – The York Daily Record.

The writer goes on to protest cap and trade, which I also think is a bad idea, but not for the same reasons, obviously. But that other line — that is why the Tea Party “movement” is not a movement but a top-down manipulation, a misdirection.

These are people who’ve been gouged for years by the deregulated banking, mortgage lending, and commodities trading business, and when Obama sends down very weak, watered-down regulations to deal with those problems, they howl that he’s against “private enterprise” because that’s what they’ve been told to think by the Glenn Becks of the world.

Did you know that insider trading isn’t even illegal in the commodities trading business? Do you honestly think gas prices were high in 2008 because we weren’t drilling enough in the Gulf of Mexico?

You idiots are being used. Think for yourselves. If the Fox Network believes it so wholeheartedly, how could it possibly be in your interest? They’ll take your ratings, sure, so they can sell you Charmin and $5 footlongs. I mean, Jesus, how can you not see that? If you had real allies that powerful, don’t you think someone would have taken care of you by now?

I can’t believe you are at all surprised by the ease in which the US population is manipulated. Even the USSR at the height of its power didn’t have a populace as docile and uniform as we are.

Yep, that because we have the liberal media here and the poor Russian people had nothing. I love the way they’re being used and don’t know it. Scary also.

Liberal media? Please. If you’ve got something intelligent to add to the discussion, bring it on, otherwise if it’s just the same nonsense that people like you use as an excuse to do nothing, go back to watching Hannity.

These folks are angry, confused, and very afraid of the future. They don’t want change, they “want their country back”. Glenn Beck finds fodder for his rants in the extreme left, people who have grand ideas with no practical application. Good luck to us all.

I agree completely. I don’t want to just comment and be a complete yes man but everything you said is 100 percent true. These tea parties are being run by people who make more than the entire crowds they draw put together. Someone like Dick Armey who goes out to these things and pretends to be a man of the people while he spent the last 5 or so years making his living as a lobbyist. and They get their news from millionaire snake oil salesmen like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck who don’t even have the decency to show up and speak at these stupid gatherings. And Obamas the elitist?!? Ill leave it at this…people who make 400 million dollars a year cannot possibly be a part of a grass roots effort.

I’m amazed at how little people use their brains. The tea party crowd actually believes that the likes of Beck, Hannity and Neal Boortz are journalists and that their daily rantings are news! I’ve carried on political and social conversations with friends and family, where their arguments sounded like transcripts of these talk shows. They have so little clue about the degree to which they’re being manipulated by News Corp. and other large communications agencies, which benefit from far-right policy at the expense of their listeners.

I’m sure you’ll next rail on anyone contributing a dollar to a liberal top-down group like moveon or acorn, who are being plied for anti-GOP contributions to recruit illiterate cogs for their urban democratic machines.

Oh wait – the supporters of those groups are smart and independent minded, unlike the foolish tea-smugglers (or whatever you call them these days)….my fault.

That said, keep up whatever you’re doing here, Matt. I’ve never come across a blog where the bounce from genius reporter to retarded reactionary happens at such blinding speed.

Do you have an argument that actually relates to the blog post? Nope. Instead, it’s more of the same “well hey, if he’s going to criticize , why doesn’t he also criticize ?” If you actually followed Taibbi’s writing, you’d realize he doesn’t hold back on either side of the political equation. But why take that into consideration when you can instead post some inane, look how smart I am rant that really says nothing we haven’t heard a million times already.

Who are the lemmings……….the people who believe in a government as set forth in the constitution, i.e., LESS government, AKA as the “tea baggers”, or the lemmings that all voted for a biracial president from one of the dirtiest cities, politically, in the U.S. and who usually voted “Present” on bills that were voted on during his short time as a Senator. Obviously this was done so no one could see in which direction he leaned, thereby insuring that he could run for president and put himself out there as “one of the people” when in fact, he has increased the size of the government more than any president, ever! People are getting sick of his lies, i.e., putting the health care debates on C-Span; reading miranda rights to Muslim terrorists (even though he will not call them that); saying that our soldiers should be paying for their own health care because, after all, they VOLUNTEERED; et al.
He may ignore the “tea baggers” all he wants and jamb the health care bill down our throats but he may not be elected for a second term and quite a few Demos may not be reelected in the coming elections. You may dismiss Fox News as non-news, but at least they report FULLY on news, not only simply what liberals want to hear. An example of this was when the usual news media report that someone had an AK-47 slung over their shoulder at one of the “Tea Parties” and they showed the man from the back and from the neck down. Lo and behold, on Fox they showed the WHOLE photo……..and it was a black man! Glenn Beck has been the ONLY person to investigate the backgrounds of Obama’s closest advisors which seem to indicate that they have a radical agenda, and can give praise to people like Mao, for God’s sake, as someone they can look to. Look to for what: killing people that disagree with you!!! There is a reason that Fox news is the MOST TRUSTED news media on T.V. Think about it, watch it, as well as your other news programs, and then make a decision.

Oh Anne. You are so wrong. What color is the kool-aid that Fox is giving you today?

You’ve fallen for the narrative hook, line, and sinker but that’s beside the point. The reality is that we have problems in America today. Big problems. People are suffering. Here’s a guy that is genuinely trying to make this country a better place to live in and all the right does is cast aspersion on the left. The right offers no solution to these problems. They are a bunch of spoiled, whining crybabies. You guys had your chance with W and y’all royally screwed the pooch with that one. Since you offer no solutions, WHY DO YOU DESERVE THE MICROPHONE FOR EVEN ONE SECOND? Sit down and shut up. Take your fear and speculation elsewhere. The grown-ups are trying to accomplish something.

Wake up, Anne. The attack of liberals and progressivess by the right is 100% prison-rules politics. It’s a political strategy. These people don’t care about you, I promise. You think Sarah Palin and all your righty heros give a flying leap about populist interests? They don’t. They only care about making money and advancing their political careers. It’s sad but true. Pull your head out.

    • StanG | February 10, 2010 at 12:38 pm

Unfortunately your words of wisdom will fall on deaf ears. Anne, like so many others, would rather stay inside her “us against them” bunker, happily watching Fox News to get the latest ammunition to use against those damned liberals. It’s a lot easier to spout misinformation and lies, especially when it’s presented in such a compelling fashion, then to actually ask the tough questions or do any honest-to-god research. Unfortunately, when the GOP eventually returns to the White House (and they will), she may notice that it will once again be politics as usual with another conservative at the helm pretending to represent real change by making it all about abortion, stem-cell research, and prayer in school. And what she won’t notice is that despite whatever stand they take, like you said, they don’t care about you.
